What's With the Mulching Lawn Mower?

More and more people are becoming sensible nowadays. At a time where the campaigns for recycling and saving the mother earth are intensifying, many have opted to go out of their way to help protect the environment. Segregating your waste is one thing, but using a mulching lawn mower could be another way to keep you from adding up to the community waste pile.

One thing about cutting grass is that you have to keep the cut grass in the bag attached in any ordinary lawn mower so you could easily dump the contents later. Most often, when one has no intention to take his part in preserving the environment, he or she will be using plastic, which is already a big no-no nowadays, with the growing pile of non-biodegradable materials already being burdened by mother earth. But with the need for a waste free way to cut grass and beautify a lawn, came the invention of the mulching lawn mower. It doesn't require you to think of where to dump the cut grass; instead, it already pushes the cut grass into compost.

If you are a dedicated gardener, you know what this means: less hassle on your part; and more fertilizer for the soil and plants. This particular type of mower is made to leave behind thinly cut grass clippings that could be left on the lawn without that hideous bulk that you could normally see after a lawn has been mowed with an ordinary lawn mower. Another thing is that even though you left the cut grass over the lawn, the grass underneath would still grow well.

There may be many types of lawn mowers available to professional landscape artists and hobbyists alike, but if you would want to do less in cutting the lawn but do more in enriching the soil, the mulching lawn mower is the one for you. Of course it will cost you more than what you would usually spend for a simpler type, but the results could be more than you expected. Imagine mowing the lawn without getting stressed and not thinking about where to dump the waste afterwards. This will surely be a reward to anyone who loves his or her lawn but hates the waste and the tedious work.

Of course, the efficiency of this particular type of lawn mower depends on the operator. If you would want the cut grass to decompose faster, you could time the mowing frequency so only half an inch of the grass will be cut, thus resulting in finer clippings. It is also important to make sure that the mower blade is sharp before cutting the lawn. Refrain from mowing the lawn when it has just rained or you have just watered the grass, since this will result in a clumpy muddle. Remember to keep it cool. Enjoy a refreshing drink every once in a while during the mowing process. Keep in mind that a mulching lawn mower will not work fine if the operator is hurrying the entire process.
